Our Scout air rifle club developed from one set up by 1st Malden Scouts in 1984. They entered the National Scout Air Rifle Championships held at Walton Firs that year and did so well that it inspired regular practice. The District Commissioner at the time made it a District Club in 1987. The District has been represented at the National Championships (which are now held at Bisley, the internationally famed venue of shooting) every year since 1984.
Air rifle shooting is an Olympic discipline and is one of the shooting and precision sports. We’re delighted to be able to offer this sport in Royal Kingston and we were even more delighted that six newly qualified air rifle instructors met up this week at the Air Rifle Club to learn how to set up and run the range. They have volunteered to help Jean Jenkins run sessions for the District on Tuesday evenings. This enables Royal Kingston to build a greater depth of skilled resources to ensure continuity with this popular activity. Thank you to everyone involved in making this happen and to especially to Pete (2nd Malden) for co-ordinating this.
